Advanced Options - More info

This page gives a bit more info on the options provided in the More Options window.

Not every site supports every advanced option. In most cases, when an option is not supported, it is simply ignored. (For example, if you specify that you only want to search Coupes, you will still get ads for sedans on craigslist, because that site does not support filtering by body style.) However, where possible we have used work-arounds to provide partial support. These are described below.

  1. Technically Keywords is a regular option, on the main page. However, since it is not uniformly supported by all sites, it is included here.
  2. See the second table, below, for a full description of how your body style choices are treated by the various sites.
  3. Sites listed Multiple look at the checkboxes in the Body Style tab when determining what styles to return. This allows you to search more than one body style at a time (IE 'Trucks' and 'SUVs'.)
  4. These sites do not allow body style to be specified. However, we can use keywords to check for or filter out convertibles.
  5. Sites listed Preferred Only only allow one body style to be specified at a time. You can use the 'preferred body style' dropdown box in the body style tab to choose which style to search for these types. (You can also choose 'Any', in which case vehicles of all body styles will be returned.)

Body style mapping

Each cars site has a slightly different list of body styles. For example, some sites list vans and minivans separately, some together. For each body style listed at HanksHelper, the table below will show you exactly what style will be used at each of the sites we search.
